Small amounts of sugar do not tend to do much harm to the human form, but if you are not careful, you could quickly find out just what too much sugar does to your body. Why Is Sugar So Terrible?
Sugar, especially in a synthetic form, can wreak havoc on your overall health. The body naturally produces glucose, but the fructose that is contained within a lot of today’s popular food and drink products is the real culprit. What too much of that tasty sugar does to your body is no laughing matter. The habit can cause some pretty serious health problems, including but not limited to the following:
- Produces Insulin Resistance – When you eat or drink foods that have too much sugar for a long period of time, you are basically ruining your body’s ability to process insulin. This can eventually lead to metabolic syndrome or even type 2 diabetes.
- Fosters Weight Gain – Due to sugar’s negative effects on your body’s metabolism and hormones, eating too much could cause you to gain weight. After just a short period of time, people who eat lots of the sweet stuff will be able to see clearly just what sugar does to your body.
- Causes Tooth Decay – Too much placating of your sweet tooth might be satisfying at first, but after a while your teeth will begin to decay, and that won’t be nearly as pleasant. And once the enamel from your choppers has been worn away by all that sugar, there is no getting it back.
- Overloads the Liver – The sugar you eat and don’t use immediately is stored in your liver for later use, but if the liver gets too much, then you will find out what sugar does to your body in the form of massive liver malfunction.
- Becomes Addictive – Because of the substantial dopamine release that comes from ingesting a lot of sugar, consuming too much of it on a regular basis can eventually become an addiction for some people.
