You hear about all kinds of diet and fad out there, but have you heard about the idea to eat nothing but fruit and lose weight? Is this something that can really work, and is it healthy in any way? The truth is that you need balance in your diet and your life. Though some people may approach weight loss in this “fruitarian” type of way, it may be lacking some of the very things that you need to be your best. Eating right starts with a well-balanced diet, and this may include fruit. As with any type of diet or weight loss fad or trend, you want to understand the pros and the cons to it. So let’s take a look at what works and what doesn’t work with the fruitarian diet.
If you eat nothing but fruit, you are indeed providing yourself some key nutrients that the body needs. This is by far one of the biggest pros to eating in this manner and why so many people turn to it. You get a nice heaping helping of fiber by eating this much fruit, and that can go a long way. You keep the body hydrated, too, as many fruits have a high water concentration. You might also find that you get many of the vitamins and minerals that you need to function each day. This works to your advantage, gives you natural energy, protects your health now and into the long term, and keeps you moving strong. This is where the pros end, though, as a fruit-only lifestyle can present some issues as well.
Balance Is Always Essential
One of the biggest problems when you eat nothing but fruit is that it doesn’t offer you much in the way of protein. Sure, you get carbohydrates, but along with that comes a lot of sugar. This can cause your blood-sugar levels to skyrocket, and though it’s different than simple carbs, you may get the same rise-and-fall type of effect. You want to be careful to supplement all of that fruit with lean protein, good fats, vegetables, and whole grains. Without that balance, you could very well lose some weight, but it will come back as soon as you return to a normal diet.
When you eat nothing but fruit, you are cutting yourself short in so many different areas. You will not enjoy the best health benefits as you move forward since you will be lacking in many of the things that your body needs to thrive and function properly. You could very well lose weight in this manner, but it will likely be temporary and may end up just being water weight at that. You do want to eat fruit for weight loss and better health, but you need to be mindful to balance it out with other things to be your best. Balance will always work to your advantage!
